A group of 17 Malaysian students returned home with 22 medals and nine overall awards after competing at the Koala Excellence Olympiad, an international academic competition held in Macau. Among the top performers was Marvyn Zef Mark Philip, who secured category wins in both science and English on his way to an overall third-place finish, alongside fellow students who placed highly in mathematics and English.

The Koala Excellence Olympiad, developed by Australian education specialists, is designed to test critical thinking, creativity and the practical application of knowledge across four academic disciplines, rather than relying on rote memorisation. Organisers and parents said the strong showing reflected the growing emphasis Malaysian schools have placed on problem-solving and analytical skills in recent years, alongside traditional academic subjects.
